Working from home seemed to have become the normality for many businesses who require to work on a computer. However, some people can find it very difficult to work from home and that is due to the home environment. There can be many distractions at home which is why you need to ensure you reduce those distractions and that is by creating the perfect home office.

To ensure you reduce those distractions, you need to create an office environment where you can focus and get your work done. Let’s take a look at how you can design the perfect home office, optimising your time at home and maximising your productivity.

Pick The Right Room

A mistake that people make is putting desks where they think a desk can fit. However, that shouldn’t be the case. You should pick a room where there is less foot traffic. You don’t want your office desk in the living room or kitchen because these are the more common rooms. Furthermore, you don’t want it near the stairway because people can also be walking past you here. Ideally, you need to be in a room that is isolated away from everyone and, there are fewer distractions.

If you have a spare room in your house which isn’t in use, this would be the perfect place to put it. However, the bedroom is also a good place to put your desk because there are fewer distractions and people walking past you in your room.

Ensure There Is Plenty of Light

An issue that many people have is that they are not as productive at home compared to at work. One of the reasons for this could be the lack of light in the room. For example, if you are under the stairs, there might not be a lot of natural light. That is why you should choose a room where there is plenty of light. Putting your desk next to the window is essential because it can help with productivity.

There will be times in the day when the sun starts to set earlier, especially in the winter. That is why you must make sure there are plenty of lights around your desk to help keep you focused.

One of the best rooms that can guarantee natural light would be a conservatory if you have one. The only issue with this is that the conservatory can be a cold room during the winter although there are solutions for this. One of those would be to place a heater next to you and have that turned on all day. The other solution would be conservatory roof insulation that allows you to maintain a more comfortable temperature all year round.

Consider Ergonomics

Ergonomic office furniture, keyboards and other things that you have in your office are essential. Your chair especially should be something that you find comfortable as you will be sitting on this for 7 or 8 hours per day. Being comfortable is essential for keeping you focused on the task at hand.

Something else that you should consider is investing in an office chair that has arms. These arms should then be at the right height with your desk so they can easily rest whilst you are typing on your keyboard.

Brighten Your Home Office With Natural Colours

Another great way to make your home office a more enjoyable place to work. One of the best things that you can do to achieve this would be to add a few plants here and there. Now, you don’t want to choose too many plants because it can make your desk cluttered which will then become quite distracting. That is why choosing a couple of plants, whether they are faux or real plants would be perfect for your desk. If you don’t trust yourself to keep a plant alive then purchase a couple of faux plants to add to your desk.

Make Sure Air Quality Is Good

The problem with most modern homes is that they tend to be very airtight which is good to a certain extent. Yes, you want it to be airtight so you can keep the heat in your home however, air pollutants can linger which is why you will need some airflow. Again, this is the advantage of being next to the window. On the contrary, air pollutants can come into your home so make sure you don’t open your window when air pollution is high.

To Conclude

There are many places in your home where you can put a desk and a chair however, you want to reduce your distractions as much as possible. The way to do that would be to choose a room that has no television screens and doesn’t have many people walking into or past it. Just choose an area where there is the least amount of distractions and you shouldn’t find it an issue to focus on your work.
